Hey Jess 🙂 I think the biggest struggle I have with travel is the language barrier! If I can have a guess or learn a few key phrases I feel just about ok, but if a language is DRAMATICALLY different, I kind of chicken out and think “…some day, just not this trip!”. Which is such a shame, isn’t it?! There are parts of Japan & Russia I’d love to see, but I think I’d feel really vulnerable because I’d be so unable to communicate, but more importantly, so unable to READ what’s around me. Do you have any tips on this front? Or any tips for building confidence? Any experiences in overcoming language barriers? Or any good language apps you use? Would love to know!

    And thankyou!

    🙂

Hi Flora, thank you so much for your comment because you are definitely NOT the only one of my readers who feels this way! I can totally see where you’re coming from and this is 100% something that I’m going to write a complete blog post or create an entire video dedicated to it. There are certainly ways to overcome all of your concerns, so keep an eye out for some help from me in the next couple of weeks 🙂

Hi Jess, I’d like to know the least expensive flights from my preferred airport each season. I like to travel (internationally) but never have time to plan anything way in advance. It would be awesome to get an alert or something with the best places to travel each season and alerts on cheap flights leaving out of my area. What are the best apps for that? And best/ cheapest flights to London from NYC/DC. Thanks!

Interesting question Kelliann, I think I could write a blog post on this one but I can start you off with Airfarewatchdog.com where you can sign up for alerts for cheap flights from your chosen city without specifying your destination. Also, did you know you can put your destination as “everywhere” on Skyscanner and it will show you the cheapest destinations/tickets for your selected dates. Hope that’s a good enough start for ya 🙂 You can also get alerts sent to you for NYC>LDN. Flights to/from DC/LDN are almost always more expensive than NYC so if you can get to NYC then that’s going to be your best bet.

Great tips, thank you! Looking forward to a full post 🙂 I was on SkyScanner, but didn’t realize I could put “everywhere”. Will give that a try! Also, just signed up for airfare wacthdog!
