One Aldwych

First on our list of eco-friendly hotels in London is One Aldwych, a prestigious luxury hotel in the heart of London that has made significant strides in prioritising sustainability, something that’s been important to them since they opened in 1998. Alongside the regular practices many of the eco-friendly hotels in London are adopting, such as energy-saving and water-reclaiming features, they’re also taking a few slightly different steps to consider the planet. They have installed a rooftop beehive to support the health of urban bees, have their own glass crusher which crushes all bottles and containers on-site, have a chlorine-free swimming pool which uses a mineral-based cleaning system, and even send excess food waste to a farm in Kent where it’s composted amongst the vegetables grown which are then used in the hotel’s restaurants.

The Beaumont

The Beaumont is an independent five-star hotel that offers a luxurious place to stay in the heart of London’s West End. Aside from the exquisite rooms, premium restaurants and bars and overall opulent decor, the hotel also excels when it comes to sustainability, having won multiple awards for its efforts. They’re currently in the process of minimising the use of all single-use plastics and have fitted LED lights throughout, which they say is the same as planting 177.48 acres of forest and removing 124,81 cars from the roads. They’ve also installed solar film on all windows and generate all their hot water using two CHPs – a cleaner alternative. The food menus here are centred around the seasons, with food waste kept to a minimum and bee hives on the hotel’s rooftop, which provide honey for breakfast throughout the year. They’re also proud to say they’re on top of their game regarding recycling, with nothing going to landfill.

Where possible, they also work with local or British brands, and their kitchens focus heavily on British or local produce. They also ask that their food delivery companies take their packaging away with them or use fully recyclable packaging.
